History: Jade has been mined and worked in China since the Stone Age. In prehistoric sites, jade artifacts include simple ornaments with bead, button, and tubular shapes. It was also used for tools and weapons. Jade later became revered with special significance. However, nephrite jade has been an important part of China's jade culture for more than 5,000 years. And nephrite's history on other continents goes back 4,000 to 5,000 years. The name jade had always applied to nephrite until jadeite jade was imported into China about 200 to 250 years ago.

Most real jade you'll find from reputable retailers in Canada is likely nephrite jade. Nephrite jade is found in Northern British Columbia and gets exported all over the world.
