History: Blue zircon was a particular favorite in Victorian times, when fine gems were often featured in English estate jewelry dating from the 1880s. Gemologist George Kunz—Tiffany's famed gem buyer—was a notable zircon advocate. He once proposed the name “starlite” to promote the gem's fiery nature.

Because they're in greater demand, blue zircons usually command higher prices than any of the other varieties. Even though gem buyers can satisfy their demand for blue gems with top-grade topaz at significantly lower cost, blue zircon continues to sell well.

The earliest diamonds were found in India in 4th century BC, although the youngest of these deposits were formed 900 million years ago. A majority of these early stones were transported along the network of trade routes that connected India and China, commonly known as the Silk Road.

Traces of platinum were found incorporated into the hieroglyphs decorating a sarcophagus that was unearthed at Thebes. Indigenous civilizations of South America also managed to forge platinum and use it for ornamental purposes in burial objects and jewellery dating back 2,000 years.

It began to be used in the 1890s and became the most popular metal of choice in the early 1900s due to its durability. It stopped being used in engagement rings during WWII when platinum was in demand by the military. It returned to popularity at the end of the 20th century. Platinum was the preferred metal used in the Art Deco period.

It all began in the early 20th century when jewelers, seeking a budget-friendly platinum alternative, found white gold to be the perfect solution. At the time, platinum was the ultimate choice for fine jewelry, particularly for engagement rings and wedding bands.
