Jade was first identified in Canada by Chinese settlers in 1886 in British Columbia. The earliest discovery of the value of BC jade was by Chinese railway workers around 1885. A large discovery in 2000 by Kirk Makepeace found a 18-tonne gem-quality boulder named 'Polar Pride'. Commercial mining of Canadian jade began in 1972 with the Loex James Ltd.
Gold plating on jewelry has a rich history, dating back to ancient civilizations like Egypt and Rome. The modern process of electroplating, which is commonly used today, was developed by Luigi Brugnatelli in 1805. This method allowed for more affordable and accessible gold-look jewelry, becoming popular during the Art Deco era and World War II.
