They are hand knotted with silk thread, which protects each pearl from rubbing against each other. The clasp is a filigree design and is in perfect working order. Pearls are known as being the most feminine of all gems and have been used in jewelry for centuries. This Vintage strand of pearls would make a wonderful gift or addition to any jewelry collection.
Note: Pearls were presented as gifts to Chinese royalty as early as 2300 BC, while in ancient Rome, pearl jewellery was considered the ultimate status symbol. ... According to legend, Cleopatra crushed a pearl into a glass of wine to prove to Marc Antony that she could give the most expensive dinner in history.
South Sea pearls are cultured using a large, white-lipped oyster, hand-selected from the waters of the South Pacific. The oyster is about twice the size of the Akoya pearl oyster and produces much larger pearls. These luxurious pearls are cultured in Australia, Indonesia, the Philippines, Myanmar, Japan and Thailand.
