Drakkar  - Ancient Viking 8th-11th Century Dragon Bronze Pendant. This amazing pendant is crafted from bronze. Featuring an ancient Viking design,  wonderful detail and quality bronze work. The pendant displays a beautiful 'S' shape, with a detailed dragons face, mid-section, and tail. The bale is circular and substantial, which holds the dangling dragon beautifully. This piece has lovely aged deep bronze patina. The dragon pendant has been matched up to a contemporary black leather adjustable cord, with a secure lobster claw clasp. The softness of the cord protects the bale as it moves back and forth, when worn.  This pendant would make a perfect unique gift or wonderful addition to any early collection.

Note: Vikings and Norse Dragons: The sight of a viking longship, with its huge carved dragon figurehead, struck terror in the hearts of northwestern Europeans for centuries. The Vikings from the Norse countries of Iceland, Denmark, Sweden and Norway, sailed along the coasts of the British Isles and the European continent, exploring, raiding and colonizing from around 800 to 1066. They called their longships "drakkar" or dragon ships and the dragons was a powerful symbol of war. The dragon symbol may have represented the Midgard Serpent, a mythical sea creature who fought with Norse god, Thor. Much of the current knowledge about dragons and their place in Norse mythology its from Eddas and sagas, tales from Norse oral literature. These poems describe the heroic deeds of Norse gods and human man and woman warriors.
