Four Leaf Clover - Ancient Viking Silver Birka Amulet Pendant & Chain.  This wonderful antiquity is crafted from sterling silver, tested. Featuring an ancient design, fine detail, and hand - work.  The pendant is a petite circular shaped medallion.  It is decorated with scroll type designs, which could possibly represent a four leaf clover. The amulet displays traces of its original patina, which enhance the raised decoration. The bail is polished, and looks to be original. The pendant has been professional cleaned, which brings out a shiny silver finish.  The antiquity has been matched up to a contemporary sterling silver chain, hallmarked 925 and Italy.  The Viking era pendant would make a perfect addition to any ancient antiquity collection.

The Viking Age was the period during the Middle Ages when Norsemen known as Vikings undertook large-scale raiding, colonizing, conquest, and trading throughout Europe, and reached North America. It followed the Migration Period and the
Germanic Iron Age from 793 AD until the invasion of the Normans in 1066 AD

Four-leaf clovers were Celtic charms, presumed to offer magical protection and ward off bad luck. Children in the Middle Ages believed if they carried a four-leaf clover, they would be able to see fairies, and the first literary reference to suggest their good fortune was made in 1620 by Sir John Melton.
The 4-Leaf Clover represents a rare occurrence of the normally 3-Leaf Clover, also known as the “Shamrock”. The approximate probability of a 4-Leaf Clover amongst the common 3-Leaf Clovers is one in several thousands.
