Arte Indossabile - Edwardian Italian Signed 14K White Gold Hand-Carved Conch Shell Cameo Pendant/Brooch. This gorgeous pendant/brooch is crafted from 14K white gold, hallmarked 14K, tested and confirmed. The antique piece features a finely hand-carved  conch shell cameo, Edwardian era styling, and high quality craftsmanship. This brooch consists of an exquisite white gold frame, displaying delicate detail and elegant seashell motifs. The cameo showcases a beautiful goddess draped in white linens and foliage. The goddess is white, with touches of peach throughout the beautiful lady. The background of the cameo displays a beautiful peach color. The back of the cameo is signed by the artist, however it is impossible to decipher the signature. There is a pin at the back with a rotating lock mechanism, and a bale, therefore the piece can be worn as a pendant or a brooch. This Edwardian era brooch/pendant would make a fine addition to your antique jewelry collection. Exquisite piece!

Note: Appraisal included with the Pendant/Brooch. Contemporary appraisals do not reflect the value of antique jewelry. Apprised at $2200.00 plus GST = $2310.00 CD

Comments: This Cameo and the frame displays very fine craftsmanship. Arte indossabile in Italian translates to wearable art in English.

History: The cameo is the converse of the intaglio, which consists of an incised, or sunken, engraving in the same class of materials. Cameos exist in large numbers from the early Sumerian period (c. 3100 bc) to the decline of Roman civilization, from the Renaissance, and from the Neoclassical period in the 18th century.

History. Gold has been known since prehistoric times and was one of the first metals to be worked, mainly because it was to be found as nuggets or as particles in the beds of streams. Such was the demand that by 2000 BC the Egyptians began mining gold.

The history of white gold can be traced back to the early 20th century when it was developed as a more cost-effective alternative to the precious metal platinum. It quickly gained popularity not only for its affordability but also for its unique look and versatility.

In the United Kingdom, the Edwardian era spanned the reign of King Edward VII from 1901 to 1910 and is sometimes extended to the start of the First World War. The death of Queen Victoria in January 1901 marked the end of the Victorian era.
