In mythology, topaz is portrayed as a gem of peace and healing. It was first found by the Romans over two millennia ago on the Island of Topazios in the Red Sea. They believed it could protect its wearer from enemies and bring reconciliation.

The Blue Topaz gemstone symbolizes love as well as fidelity. Blue Topaz originates from the old Sanskrit 'Tapas' meaning fire. This light blue transparent rock was named because of its power to cool hot water.

Blue topaz is considered to be a stone that represents calmness, stillness, spiritual connection, and inner peace. Perhaps the spiritual nature of the winter holidays combined with the icy blue color is why December has a blue topaz as its birthstone.

The word Topaz comes from the Greek word topazion, which comes from the ancient Sanskrit word for fire. For centuries these stones have been associated with an Egyptian island located in the Red Sea once known as Topazios. Today, Topazios is called St. John’s Island.

The Old Testament of the Bible mentions topaz, meaning this stone has been precious for ages. Scientists believe that the topaz stone existed in the prehistoric world. The first topaz discovered was yellow, but the London blue gemstones are the darkest, richest color that has been found.

Gold was generally used for a couple thousand years solely to create things such as jewelry and idols for worship. This was until around 1500 BC when the ancient empire of Egypt, which benefited greatly from its gold-bearing region, Nubia, made gold the first official medium of exchange for international trade.

Although the origin of white color gold dates back to 1710, where it was discovered by two alchemists in Germany, it wasn't used widely until much later. White gold as we know it today was really popularised in the 1920s. Although it might seem strange, this luxury material came to popularity in wartime.
