Blue Horizon - Vintage Retro 14K Rose Gold Blue Spinel Cocktail Ring. This impressive ring is crafted from 14K rose gold, Russian hallmark for 14K gold. Featuring a emerald cut synthetic blue spinel, vintage retro styling, and high quality craftsmanship. The gallery on this ring showcases an expertly bezel set light to medium blue spinel. The gallery exhibits wonderful open-work and dimension, with a substantial tapered shank. The gold is a glorious rich rosy pink Russian gold color, which works beautifully with the cool blue spinel. The shank has all of its original crisp hallmarks, yet it still leaves room for sizing, if needed. The vintage Retro ring is a statement piece in amazing condition, to be cherished for many years to come.
History: Synthetic spinel was first produced in the mid-1800s-not by flame fusion as is usually thought, but by flux growth (Nassau, 1980). These first, small flux synthetic spinel crys- tals were accidentally grown during a n attempted synthesis of corundum.
Gold was generally used for a couple thousand years solely to create things such as jewelry and idols for worship. This was until around 1500 BC when the ancient empire of Egypt, which benefited greatly from its gold-bearing region, Nubia, made gold the first official medium of exchange for international trade.
Rose gold was first used in early 19th century Russia by the famed jeweler Carl Faberge in his famous Faberge Eggs, as was known as Russian Gold. Rose gold later gained popularity in the United States during the lavish and feminine 1920's, and was worn in engagement rings and fine jewelry.
