Jewelled Cascade  -  Georgian Russian 18K Gold, Sterling Silver Diamond & Sapphire Earrings. These exquisite earrings are crafted from 18K gold, sterling silver, tested.  Featuring 16 natural antique rose cut diamonds, 10 natural antique cut faceted sapphires, 2 natural antique cut sapphire cabochons, Georgian era styling and quality workmanship. These amazing earrings are made to resemble a floral cascade, set with interspaced diamonds and sapphires.  The  diamonds glow beautifully and the sapphires are a combination of vibrant royal blue and cornflower blue gems.  The design of these earrings are very unique, especially in this combination of gemstones. Most of the Georgian diamond and sapphire earrings seen on the market today are clusters.  In fact it a rarity to see Georgian sapphire earrings at all, yet alone in this unique design. The earrings are articulated beautifully in three segments, displaying butter cup set floral sapphires and bead set diamonds, which resemble cascading leaves.  The 18K gold wires are for pierced ears, and the dangle is crafted from sterling silver (a characteristic of Georgian and early Victorian jewelry) since white gold was not invented yet. These type of earrings were made to glow in the candlelight, and are completely hand-made with tools, since there wasn't  any machinery used in jewelry making at this time. These beautiful Georgian era earrings are highly collectible and a true rarity, a wonderful addition to any fine antique jewelry collection.

Note: Contemporary appraisals do not reflect the antiquity value of these earrings.

Note: You cannot look at rose cut diamond jewelry factually with a recut formula in mind, its value is object driven. Rose cuts are a greater challenge in estimating weight once they have been mounted (especially if they are closed back). The Old Mine Cut diamond and rose cut diamonds are hand cut, which makes them so special . This is a rare find.

In 1953, GIA formally created its diamond grading system, known as the 4 C's. The 4 Cs of diamond quality are the universally recognized diamond grading system still to be used today.  1n 1955, GIA presented its first diamond grading reports, which became the hallmark of grading reports in the diamond industry. Before this time in antiquity clients did not care about diamond grading. It was based more so on the size of the diamonds ( according to budget) , style, and sentiment.  This ring is a wonderful example of the Victorian era, just beautiful!

The earliest diamonds were found in India in 4th century BC, although the youngest of these deposits were formed 900 million years ago. A majority of these early stones were transported along the network of trade routes that connected India and China, commonly known as the Silk Road.

In ancient Greece and Rome, kings and queens were convinced that blue sapphires protected their owners from envy and harm. ... In folklore, history, art, and consumer awareness, sapphire has always been associated with the color blue. Its name comes from the Greek word sappheiros, which probably referred to lapis lazuli.

The Georgian era is a period in British history from 1714 to c. 1830–37, named after the Hanoverian Kings George I, George II, George III and George IV. The sub-period that is the Regency era is defined by the regency of George IV as Prince of Wales during the illness of his father George III.

George III (George William Frederick; 4 June 1738 – 29 January 1820) was King of Great Britain and Ireland from 25 October 1760 until the union of the two kingdoms on 1 January 1801, after which he was King of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland until his death in 1820.

War and peace, 1796–1825. Catherine II died in 1796, and her son Emperor Paul I (r. 1796–1801) succeeded her. Painfully aware that Catherine had considered bypassing him to name his son, Alexander, as tsar, Paul instituted primogeniture in the male line as the basis for succession.
