Celebration - Estate Silver Plate Faux Pearl & Crystal Rhinestone Necklace. This pretty necklace is crafted from silver plate over metal. Featuring pearls (simulated), round cut crystals, and classic styling. This lovely necklace is strung with beautiful champagne colored pearls, which are interspaced with 3 silver balls, and pavé set with clear bright white crystals. The metal wire is covered with a plastic coating, which protects the pearls. The necklace has a secure lobster-claw clasp, and an adjustable extender, which can be worn at your desired length. This Estate necklace would make a perfect wedding or special occasion necklace.

History: Two forms of faux pearls were manufactured in Italy, the earliest, produced from at least the 13th century, and hailing from the ingenious glass workshops of Venice, were imitation glass pearls. Some of these pearls were apparently made from an intriguing mixture of powdered glass, and egg  white. Faux pearls(simulated pearls)are made up of glass, ceramic, shell or plastic to give them the appearance of real pearls. This faux pearl is often painted and covered in a material that simulates a pearl-like luster and false iridescence. Faux or simulated pearls are man made.

Centuries ago, quartz pebbles with a high lead content were found sparkling on the banks of Europe's Rhine River. These beautiful, natural stones were highly coveted and were eventually depleted, inspiring jewelers to create an imitation, aptly named the "rhinestone."
