Mystical Chandeliers - Victorian Brass Saphiret Glass Earrings. These lovely earrings are crafted from brass. Featuring 6 genuine tear drop shape saphiret glass gems, Victorian styling. The earrings are a classic girandole design, which became popular in the 18th century. They often have a very delicate construction and include three pendant drops, the central drop being lower than the other two. The mysterious mocha brown stones flash shades of blue with movement. The brass is oxidized, which gives the appearance of a bronzed effect. They have French leaver backs for pierced ears. These earrings look stunning when worn, truly a perfect gift or addition for any jewelry collection.
Note: Saphiret is an early glass used in jewelry making and was made during the late 1800s to mid 1900s. It was made in various countries, including Czechoslovakia and Germany during the mid 19th century. The glass was made by adding real gold to sapphire coloured molten glass. This created an amazing colour combination. The base colour ranged from mocha or pinkish brown to a brick red colour, but the amazing part is when light strikes the stone, the glass reflects the light as soft blue glow. The stone is opaque to semi-opaque.
At the turn of the century when gold increased in value, it was not cost effective to continue production of the stone, spot eventually the production of saphiret glass was altered( which made it rare). Most of the pieces you find with the older antique saphiret glass are Victorian or Edwardian pieces. Later around the vintage era of jewelry making Germany produces saphiret glass.
