Cleopatra's Jewel - Victorian 900 Silver Lapis Lazuli Filigree Necklace (VICN021)

Rarities Antique Jewelry

Cleopatra's Jewel - Victorian 900 Silver Laps Lazuli Filigree Necklace.  This lovely necklace is crafted from 900 European silver, tested. Featuring 7 genuine natural lapis lazuli cabochons, exquisite filigree and silver work, and a gorgeous Victorian designed piece. The necklace consists of an exquisite central medallion featuring filigree work, and silver bead detail with a large bezel set lapis and 4 smaller lapis gems surrounding the main stone. There is a central drop displaying a flower motif and one dangle on each side with beautiful oval bezel set lapis lazuli gems. The lapis in this necklace have the most beautiful blue colour with traces of wonderful pyrite. There is also a floral motif at the top of the medallion, which is soldered to the chains allowing them to be joined together.  This feature adds beauty to the piece and is often seen in late Victorian and Edwardian necklace designs. The design was well-suited for the necklines and delicate dressmaker details of the late Victorian / Edwardian era. The necklace has its original clasp, which is in perfect working order.  This Victorian era piece works beautifully with todays fashion, truly a perfect gift or addition to any of fine jewelry collection.

Note: Lapis Lazuli contains calcite (white veins), sodalite (Blue), and pyrite ( gold flecks of colour). The blue colour of lazurite is more intense when there is greater quantity of sulfur anions. It is usually described as an intense grey blue colour. In its dark blue variety, the content of sulfur reaches zero.  The lapis specimens in this necklace is a fine example.

Lapis Lazuli was known to be one of Cleopatra's favourite gemstone.
