Color Change Adornments - Vintage English 9K Gold Alexandrite Dangly Earrings. These pretty earrings are crafted from 9K yellow gold, hallmarked 9ct (British Hallmark). They feature 2 round cut faceted synthetic color change alexandrites, vintage styling, and quality craftsmanship. These lovely earrings are comprised of expertly claw-set alexandrites, displaying purplish/bluish hues. The galleries which hold the gemstones showcase beautiful pierce-work, adding interest and beauty to earrings. The gems are suspended from tear-drop shaped open-worked gold frames, which dangle from the surmount. The earrings are for pierced ears, featuring easy to wear shepherd hooks. These vintage earrings are feminine and so versatile, therefore they can be worn day or night.
History: Since the 1960s, labs have grown synthetic alexandrite—not to be confused with simulated alexandrite, which is actually corundum or colored crystals infused with chromium or vanadium for color. Creating synthetic alexandrite is an expensive process, so even lab-grown gemstones can be expensive.
Gold was generally used for a couple thousand years solely to create things such as jewelry and idols for worship. This was until around 1500 BC when the ancient empire of Egypt, which benefited greatly from its gold-bearing region, Nubia, made gold the first official medium of exchange for international trade.
