Crimson Opulence - Victorian 14K Gold Garnet Garland Swag Necklace. This gorgeous necklace is crafted from 14K gold, Czechoslovakian hallmark.  Featuring 119 round, pear, and marquise shaped natural rose-cut garnets, a Victorian(era) design, and quality craftsmanship.  This stunning necklace is made as a swag design (a characteristic found in Georgian, Victorian & Edwardian jewelry. This particular example is adorned by the most beautiful Czechoslovakian antique rose cut red wine garnets.  The opened backed settings allow the light to shine through, displaying the beauty and sparkle of the gemstones.  The necklace is comprised of a swag in the front, which resemble rose buds and leaves. The collar has a complete jewelled garnet surround. Even the clasp is set with garnet gemstones, which finishes the high quality necklace beautifully. There is also a safety chain on the back of the necklace, which adds even more security to the necklace.  The clasp simply slides into the decorative gallery, which is secure and hidden.  The Victorian era necklace hangs beautifully on the neck, and looks stunning when worn.  These type of necklaces are getting more difficult to find, especially in such wonderful condition and exquisite design.  Truly a rare treasure to be cherished and enjoyed for many years to come.

History: The history of garnet dates back to the Bronze Age, more than 5000 years ago. Its name, which has been used since these ancient times, was derived from the Latin word granatium, which means pomegranate (because the small, red crystals were thought to resemble pomegranate seeds).

Gold was generally used for a couple thousand years solely to create things such as jewelry and idols for worship. This was until around 1500 BC when the ancient empire of Egypt, which benefited greatly from its gold-bearing region, Nubia, made gold the first official medium of exchange for international trade.

Victorian era, in British history, is the Period of Queen Victoria's reign from 1837- 1901.
