History: Trifari, a renowned costume jewelry company, has a rich history rooted in the early 20th century. Founded by Italian immigrants Gustavo Trifari (a son of a goldsmith) and Leo Krussman.the company quickly gained recognition for its exquisite designs and innovation. Trifari's rise to prominence involved creating custom jewelry for celebrities, developing the non-tarnishing metal Trifarium, and becoming the first company to copyright their designs.
1910s: Gustavo Trifari, a son of a goldsmith, immigrates to the United States and starts the Trifari brand.
1925: Trifari is officially founded, with Gustavo Trifari joining forces with Leo Krussman.
1930s-1940s: Trifari gains recognition for creating custom jewelry for famous actors, expanding its reach and market position.
1937: Trifari's trademark is updated to include a crown above the "T," reflecting the growing popularity of Crown Trifari brooches.
1940s: Trifari begins using the Trifarium alloy in its jewelry, leading to the excellent condition of many surviving pieces.
Post WWII: Trifari designs evolve, incorporating various motifs and materials, ensuring its enduring popularity.
1980s: Irving Wolf, son of a court-appointed receiver who helped Trifari during a financial crisis, joins the company and works in the shipping department.
The main difference between Trifari and Crown Trifari lies in the hallmark used on the jewelry pieces. Crown Trifari, introduced in the late 1930s, features a crown placed above the "T" in the "Trifari" mark, while later Trifari pieces may have the Trifari name without the crown, or with a copyright symbol.
