Faith & Devotion - Vintage Gold plated Ornate Filigree Cross Pendant & Chain. This gorgeous cross pendant and chain are crafted from gold plate over metal. The chain is hallmarked Korea. This cross features exquisite detail, and vintage styling. The pendant is comprised of a beautifully shaped filigree cross, with a central polished cross. The cross is matched up to a substantial and solid rose chain design, and a secure spring ring clasp. This Vintage era cross would make a wonderful gift for that special someone, or an addition to your own personal jewelry/ religious collection.

History: The process was invented in 1805 by Italian chemist Luigi Brugnatelli who plated a very thin gold layer on top of silver. Since then, it has become commonplace in the jewelry world, with many base metals covered in gold, silver, or rhodium.

Wearing crosses became popular in the 2nd Century as a secret symbol of faith, but truly widespread adoption and public display surged in the 4th century after Emperor Constantine made Christianity legal in the Roman Empire, transforming the symbol from one of execution to hope, with public fashion blossoming from the Middle Ages onward, adorned with jewels and worn by all classes.
