Dragonfly Dream - Vintage Silver Crystal Rhinestone & Enamel Pendant/Brooch & Sterling Silver Chain.  This lovely pendant/brooch is crafted from a silver tone metal, whilst the chain is crafted from sterling silver, hallmarked 925, and Italy.  The pendant/brooch features round cut faceted crystal rhinestones, enamel work, and quality craftsmanship. This wonderful pendant is made in the form of a beautiful dragonfly, which is adorned by sparkling crystal rhinestones. The wings are beautifully decorated with enamelled luminescent green glitter. The pendant can be worn as a brooch or a pendant. The pin on the back of the brooch securely locks in place with a rotary mechanism, whilst the bale on the back of the pendant is substantial and solid. The pendant has been matched up to a box chain, which features a secure lobster-claw clasp, in perfect working order. This unique vintage piece would make a perfect addition to any vintage jewelry collection. 

History: Originally, rhinestones were rock crystals gathered from the river Rhine, hence the name, although some were also found in areas like the Alps (the source of the Rhine). Today the name "rhinestone" applies only to varieties of lead glass known as crystal glass.

Sterling silver was first used in the 12th century in Germany, where the concept of using an alloy to make silver more durable originated. It was later introduced in England in the 13th century, where it became the standard for silver objects.

Dragonflies are ancient creatures, whose ancestors flew above the carboniferous forests 300 million years ago, before the dinosaurs roamed the earth. These ancestors included Meganuera, also called 'Griffinflies', some of which had wingspans over 70cm!

The dragonfly, in almost every part of the world symbolizes change and change in the perspective of self realization; and the kind of change that has its source in mental and emotional maturity and the understanding of the deeper meaning of life.
