Amethyst Royale - Edwardian Sterling Silver Amethyst Marcasite Necklace. This gorgeous necklace is crafted from sterling silver hallmarked STERLING on the back of the necklace. Featuring a large genuine oval faceted amethyst, a genuine smaller oval faceted amethyst, genuine rose-cut marcasite, quality silver work and exquisite designing. The expertly bezel set amethysts in this necklace are a stunning deep purple colour, which are framed in sterling and enhance by hand set sparkling marcasites. There is nice movement to the amethyst drop, whilst the upper bezel and decorative links on the necklace lay nice and flat. The chain is original, and dainty, however it is substantial with a small little loop on the upper part of the chain so it can be worn shorter if desired. It has a spring ring clasp in perfect working order. A very fine quality piece indeed, truly a beautiful lavalier to be treasured and enjoyed for many years to come.
Note: A lavalier, lavaliere or lavalliere is an item of jewelry consisting of a pendant sometimes with one stone, suspended from a necklace. The style was popularized by the Duchess de la Vallière, a mistress of King Louis XIV of France. A lavalier can be recognized mostly for its drop (that usually consists of a stone and or a chandelier type drop) which is attached to the chain and not attached by a bale.
