History: Emeralds ... Its name comes from the ancient Greek word for green, “smaragdus.” Rome's Pliny the Elder described emerald in his Natural History, published in the first century AD: “… nothing greens greener” was his verdict. ... The first known emerald mines were in Egypt, dating from at least 330 BC into the 1700s. Emerald was one of Cleopatras favourite gemstones. This is known from documentation.
Diamond History The earliest diamonds were found in India in 4th century BC, although the youngest of these deposits were formed 900 million years ago. A majority of these early stones were transported along the network of trade routes that connected India and China, commonly known as the Silk Road.
It is normal for emeralds to have inclusions — in fact, around 99% of all natural emeralds will include them. The Gemological Institute of America (GIA) created three categories of clarity types for colored gemstones. They include Type 1, Type 2, and Type 3 gemstones.
