Español De Renaissance - Art Deco 900 Silver 'Bow & Floral' Filigree Filigree Earrings. These gorgeous earrings are crafted from 900 silver, tested, whilst the butterfly backs are hallmarked 925 sterling. These earrings feature Art Deco era styling, and quality craftsmanship. The surmounts on these earrings are delicate silver filigree flowers, which are for pierced ears, featuring posts , and butterfly backs (changed over at one point in time from old screw backs to a more modern and comfortable fitting). The earrings are articulated in such away that there are three filigree motifs. One being the floral surmount, the next a feminine filigree bow, and the last, and exquisite larger filigree flower motif. The earrings are articulated with connectors, which allow the earrings to have nice movement and sway, as opposed to being stiff. They are graceful and elegant, however quite dramatic.  These earrings look stunning when worn, truly a wonderful gift or addition to any jewelry collection.

Comments: Beautiful early Art Deco earrings, showcasing a Renaissance Baroque influence.

History: Silver's history is long. The first evidence of silver mining dates back to 3000 B.C., in Turkey and Greece, according to the RSC. Ancient people even figured out how to refine silver. They heated the silver ore and blew air over it, a process called cupellation.

The sterling alloy originated in continental Europe and was being used for commerce as early as the 12th century in the area that is now northern Germany. A piece of sterling silver dating from Henry II's reign was used as a standard in the Trial of the Pyx until it was deposited at the Royal Mint in 1843.

Filigree, an intricate metalwork technique using delicate threads and grains of precious metals, boasts a history spanning millennia and diverse cultures. Its origins can be traced back to ancient civilizations in the Middle East, Egypt, Greece, and Rome, where it was used to create jewelry, religious objects, and decorative items. Over time, filigree spread across Europe and Asia, evolving with distinct regional styles and becoming a significant part of cultural heritage.

Flourishing between 1920 and 1935, Art Deco jewelry rejected Victorian curves for geometric precision, symmetry, and bold color contrasts. Driven by the Jazz Age, King Tut's tomb discovery, and Cubism, the era introduced platinum settings, newly invented diamond cuts (like baguette and Asscher), and vibrant gemstone accent.

Early Art Deco (1920-1935): Carried some delicate, lacy filigree elements from the preceding Edwardian period, but shifted heavily towards monochromatic white-on-white designs featuring diamonds and platinum.
