Explosion Of Colour - Vintage Gold Plated Amethyst Crystal Rhinestone Pendant Necklace. This gorgeous pendant & necklace are crafted from gold plate over metal. The pendant and necklace features one oval cut faceted crystal rhinestone, vintage retro wear styling, and quality craftsmanship. The pendant is comprised of a beautiful sparkling amethyst coloured crystal rhinestone, which is expertly bezel-set in a substantial setting. The bale features an 'X' design, and is large enough to wear on many of your favourite chains or necklaces. The chain/necklace which accompanies the pendant is an attractive flat curb design, featuring a secure spring ring clasp in perfect working order. This vintage pendant/necklace looks stunning when worn, truly a wonderful addition to any vintage jewelry collection.
History: Centuries ago, quartz pebbles with a high lead content were found sparkling on the banks of Europe's Rhine River. These beautiful, natural stones were highly coveted and were eventually depleted, inspiring jewelers to create an imitation, aptly named the "rhinestone."
Luigi Brunatelli, an Italian chemist, is most widely credited for inventing electroplating. Brugnatelli published his findings on the use of Volta piles to deposit a layer of gold onto a metallic surface in 1805.
