Feminine & Classic - Vintage Gold Plated Tear Drop Pearl (Simulated) Drop Pendant & 14K Gold Fill Chain. This vintage pendant features one tear-drop pearl (Simulated), and vintage styling. This elegant pendant is comprised of a decorative gold cap, which is set with a dangling tear drop white pearl, displaying champagne coloured over tones. The pendant has been matched up to a gold filled chain, featuring a spring ring clasp in perfect working order. This vintage pendant would make a perfect addition to any costume jewelry collection.

History: Two forms of faux pearls were manufactured in Italy, the earliest, produced from at least the 13th century, and hailing from the ingenious glass workshops of Venice, were imitation glass pearls. Some of these pearls were apparently made from an intriguing mixture of powdered glass, snail slime and egg white.

During the mid to late Victorian period, gold filled jewelry was very prevalent. The scarcity of gold and the rise of commodities through the industrial revolution drove this demand. These pieces are so durable that the gold can last decades and decades depending on the wear.

Vintage gold plated jewelry is a higher quality than contemporary gold plate because of the gold content. Heavier and thicker gold plate is applied.
