Full Bloom - Vintage Signed 'Heidi Daus' Bronze Toned Metal Austrian Swarovski Crystal Rhinestone Necklace & Earring Set. This gorgeous set is crafted from bronze toned metal, signed Heidi Daus. The set features a variation of cuts and colors of Swarovski crystal, numerous faux pearls, vintage styling, and quality craftsmanship. The gallery on this necklace is expertly set with beautiful sparkling crystal gemstones, which lead to a 3 strand pearl necklace and a chain extender. The chain also has a pearl dangle, which adds a wonderful finishing touch to the piece. The earrings match the necklace perfectly, and most likely were purchased as a set. They are for pierced ears, which feature posts and secure clip-on backs. This set looks stunning when worn, truly a perfect addition to a special occasion dress or gown.
History: A pioneer and leader of the statement jewelry concept, since 1981 Heidi Daus has created some of the world's most spectacular pieces of jewelry.
Combining time-honored traditions from every era with the most up to date techniques, each ingeniously designed piece is hand-set using flawlessly clear Swarovski crystals, Italian-inspired chain and Heidi's distinctively luxurious bronze tone finish.
The term Rhinestone was given to the little sparkles after the river Rhine, where quartz pebbles, rock crystals with a high lead content were originally found. Folk would collect them from the shores, jewellers cutting and moulding them into little imitation diamonds.
In 1883, Daniel formed a jewelry company and by 1886, they had over 70 employees, and supplied jewelry for Queen Victoria. In 1891, Daniel registered a patent for the crystal cutting machine that he created and in 1895, moved from Bohemia to Wattens, Austria to begin crystal production.
European glassmakers began to develop more sophisticated faux pearls. In the 16th century, Venetian artisans created an iridescent glass. By blowing hollow spheres and filling them with wax, this glass could resemble pearl. In the 18th century, “Roman pearls” became the simulant of choice.
