Fleurs Et Diamants - Victorian 'French Eagle Head Hallmark' 18K Gold Rose Cut Diamond Dangley Earrings. These exquisite earrings are crafted from 18K yellow and white gold, tested, and hallmarked with a French eagle head hallmark used from Jan 1847 to July 1919. The earrings feature 4 natural rose cut diamonds, Victorian French styling, and high quality craftsmanship. These precious earrings are for pierced ears and feature secure French leaver back closures. The surmounts are expertly claw-set with glowing antique rose cut diamonds in a buttercup setting. The dangles, which are hand-crafted in white gold, are set with larger shimmering rose cut diamonds. The earrings are beautifully hand-crafted and high quality. They are articulated in such away that allows the earrings to have the perfect sway. Both of the earrings are hallmarked on the leaver back portion of the earrings, with a much desired French eagles head hallmark. These Victorian French beauties are elegant and so versatile. They can be worn with everything and anything, day or night.

Note: Contemporary appraisals do not reflect antique jewelry. It is recommended that these earrings be insured for $2000.00 (Tax Excluded)

History: The earliest diamonds were found in India in 4th century BC, although the youngest of these deposits were formed 900 million years ago. A majority of these early stones were transported along the network of trade routes that connected India and China, commonly known as the Silk Road.

The rose cut originated in the 1500's and was commonly used through the Georgian and Victorian eras. Like other antique diamond cuts, they were cut by hand and meant to dazzle under candlelight. Their large, wide facets performed exquisitely in low light conditions.

Like its name, rose cut diamonds were inspired by the spiral of petals in a rose bud. Instead of a tight sparkle like a modern round brilliant cut diamond, rose cut diamonds are more known for a sensual shimmer and luster.

Gold was generally used for a couple thousand years solely to create things such as jewelry and idols for worship. This was until around 1500 BC when the ancient empire of Egypt, which benefited greatly from its gold-bearing region, Nubia, made gold the first official medium of exchange for international trade.

White gold has been around since the turn of the 19th century, but it wasn't until the 1920s when it really started gaining popularity. At the time, platinum had been the preferred precious metal for jewellery. But it quickly became scarce as World War II raged on, and countries began to stockpile it for military use.
