Cerise Glamour - Vintage Rhodium Plated Austrian Swarovski Pink Crystal Rhinestone Fringe Necklace. This eye-catching necklace is crafted from rhodium plate over metal. Featuring Austrian Swarovski crystal rhinestones, vintage styling, and quality craftsmanship. This lovely necklace is comprised of 3 rows of cerise pink crystals, and a fringe portion which consists of emerald cut vibrant cerise pink crystals. The neck portion features a single row of rhinestones, which allows the necklace to be comfortable when worn. All the crystals are expertly claw-set (a characteristic of high quality vintage costume jewelry), which securely holds the stones in their settings, as seen in fine jewelry. History: Originally, rhinestones were rock crystals gathered from the river Rhine, hence the name, although some were also found in areas like the Alps (the source of the Rhine). Today the name "rhinestone" applies only to varieties of lead glass known as crystal glass.

In 1883, Daniel formed a jewelry company and by 1886, they had over 70 employees, and supplied jewelry for Queen Victoria. In 1891, Daniel registered a patent for the crystal cutting machine that he created and in 1895, moved from Bohemia to Wattens, Austria to begin crystal production.

Rhodium has been used as a coating for jewelry and silverware since the 1930s. It was also used as a plating for cigarette lighters and writing instruments during that time. One of the many companies that used rhodium plating was the Ronson Lighter Company, which produced many art-deco style items in the 30s.
