History: The history of gold-filled jewellery traces back to early 19th century England, where this technique was patented to create semi-precious and better-quality custom jewellery during the Victorian Era.

Gold filled jewelry is still considered real gold, because the gold which surrounds the base metal is a gold alloy. However, it is not made entirely of 100% real gold, because it contains a base metal.

Gold-filled jewelry contains 100x more gold alloy than gold-plated jewelry. This is because the coating is thicker, gold-filled jewelry will last longer and resist wear and tear better than gold-plated. In addition, it would only take one tiny scratch to expose the brass beneath a piece of gold-plated jewelry.

Gold-filled can last for years as long as it is cared for. The gold layer is thick so gentle rubbing shouldn't wear it out even by the closures. If it does need to be cleaned, use a soft toothbrush and soap to gently clean it.
