Green With Envy - Estate Sterling Silver Emerald Filigree Earrings. These lovely earrings are crafted from sterling silver, hallmarked 925 for sterling.  Featuring an expertly bezel set genuine tear-drop faceted emerald, 3 genuine faceted round cut emeralds, and exquisite filigree work.  The emeralds in these earrings are deep green in colour.  The setting is shield shaped with amazing delicate filigree work.  The surmounts are bolder than the delicate filigree work, however they work perfectly with the central decoration surrounding the smaller emeralds.  These earrings are for pierced ears, featuring a post and secure butterfly back. Edwardian revival in style, these truly would make a wonderful gift or addition to any jewelry collection. 

History: Emerald gemstones were mined in Egypt as early as 330 BC, but some estimate that the oldest emeralds are 2.97 billion years old. Cleopatra is perhaps the most famous historical figure to cherish emerald gemstones. She even claimed ownership of all emerald mines in Egypt during her reign.

Silver's history is long. The first evidence of silver mining dates back to 3000 B.C., in Turkey and Greece, according to the RSC. Ancient people even figured out how to refine silver. They heated the silver ore and blew air over it, a process called cupellation.

The sterling alloy originated in continental Europe and was being used for commerce as early as the 12th century in the area that is now northern Germany. A piece of sterling silver dating from Henry II's reign was used as a standard in the Trial of the Pyx until it was deposited at the Royal Mint in 1843.
