Icy Blue Artistry - Art Deco 14K White Gold Aquamarine & Diamond Ring. This exquisite ring is crafted from 14K white gold, hallmarked 14K. Featuring 6 natural tapered triangular cut aquamarines, one natural round cut diamond, exquisite filigree work, and Art Deco era styling. The gallery on this ring showcases six shaped icy blue aquamarines, which are set in a double fan or bow shaped arrangement that sets the finger awash with subtle color. These faceted beauties are sparkling and lively. The white gold of 14K forms a lace-like pierced mounting that has light and white defining its presence. Flowers and leaves emerge from the setting under-gallery. A petite accent single cut diamond enhances the center. This Art Deco treasure is a perfect example of the open and airy filigree settings which reached their peak during the Art Deco period.
History: Roman fishermen called the gemstone “water of the sea” and used it as protection, for safe travel by boat, and for luck in catching fish. Aquamarine was linked to the apostle St. Thomas who frequently traveled by boat.
The earliest diamonds were found in India in 4th century BC, although the youngest of these deposits were formed 900 million years ago. A majority of these early stones were transported along the network of trade routes that connected India and China, commonly known as the Silk Road.
Gold was generally used for a couple thousand years solely to create things such as jewelry and idols for worship. This was until around 1500 BC when the ancient empire of Egypt, which benefited greatly from its gold-bearing region, Nubia, made gold the first official medium of exchange for international trade.
White gold was invented in the 19th century by alloying gold with palladium. It became commercially available as of 1912 in Pforzheim, Germany and gained popularity in the mid-1920's as a low-cost substitute for platinum. It is an alloy of gold with copper, zinc, and nickel.
