History: Jadeite is the principal mineral making up the most valuable form of jade, a precious stone particularly prized in China. Most gem-quality jadeite jade comes from northern Myanmar.
The jade disc itself is one of the oldest shapes and symbols. In Neolithic times, discs were used in burials and laid on the deceased. It is believed that these early discs represented heaven. It is also a symbol for the celestial life and the hole in the center representing a gateway to eternal life.
Gold was generally used for a couple thousand years solely to create things such as jewelry and idols for worship. This was until around 1500 BC when the ancient empire of Egypt, which benefited greatly from its gold-bearing region, Nubia, made gold the first official medium of exchange for international trade.
