Keepsake - Vintage 14K Gold Wedding Band Ring . This vintage ring is crafted from 14K yellow gold, hallmarked 14K, and a makers mark Keepsake. Featuring classic styling, and quality craftsmanship. The lovely wedding band has a rounded design on the outside, and is flat on the inside. It is a dainty narrow wedding band, yet sturdy because of the thickness of the gold on the profile part of the ring. The band is smooth and polished, which allows for a comfortable fit and easy sizing. Truly a wonderful keepsake for many years to come.
History: Gold was generally used for a couple thousand years solely to create things such as jewelry and idols for worship. This was until around 1500 BC when the ancient empire of Egypt, which benefited greatly from its gold-bearing region, Nubia, made gold the first official medium of exchange for international trade.
The first wedding rings can be traced back to the Ancient Egyptians when they exchanged rings made from braided reeds and hemp. They placed these rings on the fourth finger of the left-hand as they believed that there was a 'vein of love' that ran from this finger directly to your heart.
"Examples of wedding bands also date back as far as the Roman era but did not come into common use until the 1700s, and then only among the upper classes," says Corsini. "They were not widely used among the general population."
Egyptian, Greek and Roman wedding rings. It was the Egyptian pharaohs who first used rings to represent eternity. That's because a circle has no beginning and no end, and reflects the shape of the sun and the moon, which the Egyptians worshipped.
