Key To My Heart - Art Deco Signed 'EAGLE LOCK CO TERRYVILLE CONN U.S.A.' Brass Heart Padlock With Key Pendant & Chain. This padlock is crafted from brass, whilst the chain is bronze. Featuring a signed lock, antique styling, and quality craftsmanship. These type of padlocks would have been used on a chest or trunk to keep items safe. They can still be used for the same purpose today, however they also look great hanging from a chain. In the Georgian and victorian era padlock jewelry was all the rage. Tiffany and company also created a padlock line of jewelry. This particular example is great, since it is signed with the maker and where it was made. The chain is bronze, however it looks wonderful with the pendant. The chain is a belcher design, featuring a secure lobster claw clasp. This Art Deco era piece would make a meaningful and unique gift for that special someone.

History: There are padlocks dating to the Roman Era, 500 BC300 AD.They were known in early times by merchants traveling the ancient trade routes to Asia, including China.

The Eagle Lock Company was formed by the consolidation of several early nineteenth-century enterprises. The most notable began in 1832, when an English immigrant and locksmith opened a small lock manufacturer in Watertown, Connecticut. This was one of the first American lock works.

The Eagle Lock Company continued to flounder after the sale, and by the 1970s, faced foreclosure and bankruptcy. While there were attempts to purchase the manufacturing complex, none succeeded, and the company closed in 1975.
