Last Night In Soho - Vintage English 'London 1961' 9K Gold Garnet Ornate Ring. This lovely ring is crafted from 9K yellow gold, hallmarked 375 (British Hallmark for 9ct), London, a makers mark AJL TD and a letter date for 1961. Featuring one natural round cut faceted garnet, exquisite detail, and quality craftsmanship. The gallery on this ring showcases an expertly claw-set beautiful red wine garnet. The shoulders exhibit wonderful detailing on the shoulders, which lead down to a polished and smooth shank, which allows for a comfortable fit and easy sizing. This Vintage ring would make a unique engagement ring, gift, or great addition to any jewelry collection.
History: The history of garnet dates back to the Bronze Age, more than 5000 years ago. Its name, which has been used since these ancient times, was derived from the Latin word granatium, which means pomegranate (because the small, red crystals were thought to resemble pomegranate seeds).
Gold was generally used for a couple thousand years solely to create things such as jewelry and idols for worship. This was until around 1500 BC when the ancient empire of Egypt, which benefited greatly from its gold-bearing region, Nubia, made gold the first official medium of exchange for international trade.
