Lilly Of The Valley - Estate Sterling Silver Peridot & Seed Pearl Ring. This lovely ring is crafted from sterling silver, hallmarked SS 925 for sterling.   Featuring 3 faceted round genuine peridot displaying a vibrant green  colour, genuine seed pearls and quality silver work. The gems are surrounded by a sea of delicate filigree work and engraved shoulders, leading down to a polished band.  The gorgeous Edwardian style ring has exquisite detail and looks stunning when worn, truly a perfect gift or addition to any jewelry collection.

History: The fabled origin of Peridot stretches back to Ancient Egypt, on the volcanic island of Zebargad in the Red Sea. Peridot was so treasured by the Ancient Egyptians that they kept the island's location a secret. With the fall of the Egyptian empire, the island became lost to antiquity, and was only rediscovered in 1906.

Pearls were presented as gifts to Chinese royalty as early as 2300 BC, while in ancient Rome, pearl jewellery was considered the ultimate status symbol. So precious were the spherical gems that in the 1st century BC, Julius Caesar passed a law limiting the wearing of pearls only to the ruling classes.

Silver was first found in large amounts around 5000 BC, when prehistoric people dug the first copper mines. ... Large-scale silver mining had developed in Anatolia by 3000 BC. This was to meet the demand from the first ancient city states, which used the metal as a common medium of exchange.
