Magical - Edwardian 9K Rose Gold Bloodstone & Carnelian Fob Pendant & Chain. This exquisite fob pendant is crafted from 9K rose gold, hallmarked 375 for 9K, Chester mark and a date letter mark for 1914.  The chain is 14K rose gold fill, hallmarked 14K GF.  The pendant is expertly bezel set with a beautiful bloodstone on the one side and a gorgeous carnelian gemstone on the other side. The fob swivels and has a lovely twisted detail on the top of the fob.  These fobs use to be worn on pocket watch chains in the past, however now they are often worn as a pendant, since these fobs are so beautiful.  This particular fob can be worn either with the bloodstone on the outside or the carnelian on the outside, allowing the wear to have versatility. A two in one pendant, what more can we ask for! Just stunning.

Bloodstone is an ancient gem material that was used by the Babylonians (pre-539 BC) to make amulets and talismans with healing properties. The Ancient Egyptians believed bloodstone could make an individual stronger and more stealthy in battle, maybe even invisible to their enemies.

A stone of courage, purification, and noble sacrifice, the bloodstone has a long history of use for its healing properties. It was considered a somewhat magical stone because of its ability to transmute negative energy and purify a space while protecting it at the same time.

Bloodstone is an excellent blood cleanser and a powerful healing stone. It heightens intuition and increases creativity. It is grounding and protecting. Bloodstone draws off negative environmental energy, helping to overcome influences such as geopathic or electromagnetic stress.

Legend says bloodstone was formed when drops of Christ's blood fell and stained some jasper at the foot of the cross. For this reason, it is said to have special powers. Medieval Christians used to carve scenes of the crucifixion of martyrs into bloodstone; therefore they referred to bloodstone as the martyr's stone. There is a very famous bloodstone at the Louvre museum in Paris- it is carved with the seal of the German Emperor Rudolf II.

Where is Bloodstone Found? Most bloodstone in the marketplace today is from India. However, the bloodstone birthstone also comes from parts of Brazil, Australia, China and the United States, among other countries.

Gold was generally used for a couple thousand years solely to create things such as jewelry and idols for worship. This was until around 1500 BC when the ancient empire of Egypt, which benefited greatly from its gold-bearing region, Nubia, made gold the first official medium of exchange for international trade.

Carnelian belongs to the mineral family quartz. Its history dates back 4,500 years, at which time Ancient Sumerians and Ancient Egyptians fashioned it into body ornaments. The Ancient Greeks and Romans also favored the semi-precious gemstone for intaglios which they used in signet rings.

It symbolises bold energy, warmth, and a joy that lingers as much as it empowers and stimulates. It's known for being a stone of courage, endurance, energy, leadership, and motivation. Carnelians have inspired and protected us throughout history thanks to their bright, rich colouring.

Rose gold was first used in early 19th century Russia by the famed jeweler Carl Faberge in his infamous Faberge Eggs, as was known as Russian Gold. Rose gold later gained popularity in the United Stated during the lavish and feminine 1920's, and was worn in engagement rings and fine jewelry.
