Magnificent Ancient Roman 0-200 AD. Silver Legionary Warrior Pendant. This amazing artifact is crafted from sterling silver, tested sterling. Featuring fantastic detailing and quality Ancient hand made silver-work. This remarkable museum quality piece has a solid circular silver frame with beautiful raised detail, whilst the centre features a wonderful prutruding lions head. The bale has a twisted design and is solid and sturdy. The back has a soft satin like aged patina. The pendant has been matched up to a contemporary black leather adjustable cord. This artifact is in its original non restored condition and is in a very fine state of preservation. Imagine owning an artifact worn by a Roman Warrior, truly a superb and extraordinary piece to be treasured and enjoyed for many years to come.
Note: A difficult and very exciting find. Lions are commonly referred to the king of the jungle, hence, they have been a popular symbol of royalty and stateliness, as well as a symbol of bravery.
The Roman Legionary was a professional heavy infantryman of the Roman army after the Marian reforms. Legionaries had to be Roman citizens under the age of 45. They enlisted for twenty-five years of service, a change from the early practice for only listing for a campaign. The last five years were veteran lighter duties.
