Manchester By The Sea - Edwardian 9K Aquamarine & Natural Pearl Lavalier Pendant & 14K Gold Chain. This exquisite pendant is crafted from 9K yellow gold, hallmarked 9ct (British hallmark). The chain is hallmarked 14K, Italy.  Featuring one round cut faceted natural aquamarine, one pear cut faceted aquamarine, 49 natural seed pearls, Edwardian era styling, and quality craftsmanship.  This pendant is beautifully made, showcasing a delicate open-work frame, adorned by pale blue sparkling aquamarines, and lustrous silvery grey pearls. The bezel settings exhibit delicate milgrain detailing, adding a delicacy and high quality craftsmanship to the lavalier. The bale also has a set pearl, which finishes off the pendant perfectly.  The pendant has a wonderful scroll type decoration, and also showcases floral and foliage motifs. The chain works perfectly with the pendant, with its buttery gold color, and fancy links. The chain can be worn two different lengths (18"- 20") and has a secure spring ring clasp in perfect working order. This wonderful Edwardian era pendant is dreamy, feminine and sooooo beautiful! Such a treasure to be cherished for may years to come.

Note: Professional appraisal accompanies the pendant. The appraisal is for the pendant only, however the chain also comes with the lavalier pendant. Appraised at  $2200.00 (Tax Excluded) Chain value $200.00 = Total appraised value of both pieces in $2400.00 (Tax Excluded)  Contemporary appraisals do not reflect the antique value. Value is based on rarity, gemstone stones, metal, condition, workmanship, and antiquity value.  Aquamarines are not often seen in these type of pendant. Truly a beautiful rare example.

History: Spiritually, aquamarine is associated with trusting and letting go. In ancient times, aquamarine was believed to be the treasure of mermaids. Sailors used the stone as a talisman to bring good luck on the open waters. The gem was used as a symbol of protection and fearlessness too.

Pearls were presented as gifts to Chinese royalty as early as 2300 BC, while in ancient Rome, pearl jewellery was considered the ultimate status symbol. So precious were the spherical gems that in the 1st century BC, Julius Caesar passed a law limiting the wearing of pearls only to the ruling classes.

Dating back more than 5,000 years, when gold was first discovered – albeit usually in small quantities – attracted the eye of early man nearly everywhere. And unlike most metals, gold often appears in nature in its pure form so it need not be refined.

The Edwardian era or Edwardian period of British history spanned the reign of King Edward VII, 1901 to 1910, and is sometimes extended to the start of the First World War. The death of Queen Victoria in January 1901 marked the end of the Victorian era.
