Marquise Sparkler - Vintage Silver Plate Crystal Cluster Ring. This pretty ring is crafted from silver plate over metal., and a makers mark NV. The ring features one marquise cut faceted crystal, numerous round cut faceted crystals, and classic vintage styling. The gallery on this ring is claw-set with a beautiful garnet coloured marquise shaped crystal, and a clear crystal gemstone surround. History: The term Rhinestone was given to the little sparkles after the river Rhine, where quartz pebbles, rock crystals with a high lead content were originally found. Folk would collect them from the shores, jewellers cutting and moulding them into little imitation diamonds.

In 1883, Daniel formed a jewelry company and by 1886, they had over 70 employees, and supplied jewelry for Queen Victoria. In 1891, Daniel registered a patent for the crystal cutting machine that he created and in 1895, moved from Bohemia to Wattens, Austria to begin crystal production.

Silver plating, a process of applying a thin layer of silver to a base metal, has a history spanning ancient times to modern manufacturing. While the earliest examples of silver plated items date back to Ancient Greece and Rome, the process involved  significantly with the invention of electroplating in the 1830s, making silver-plated jewelry more affordable and accessible.
