The chain is also crafted from sterling silver, hallmarked 925 Italy. The pendant features one natural black onyx cabochon gemstone, vintage styling, and quality craftsmanship.  This gallery on this pendant is substantial, and expertly set with a beautiful midnight black onyx gemstone. History: Black Onyx is the most famous variety of onyx. The stone has a long history of being associated with protective powers across many cultures including Ancient Greeks and Romans, Persian, Chinese and Indian. Throughout history, the stone has not only been used in amulets and jewellery, but also in carved cameos.

Silver was discovered after gold and copper about 4000 bce, when it was used in jewelry and as a medium of exchange. The earliest known workings of significant size were those of the pre-Hittites of Cappadocia in eastern Anatolia.

Sterling silver was first used in the 12th century in Germany, where the concept of using an alloy to make silver more durable originated. It was later introduced in England in the 13th century, where it became the standard for silver objects.
