My Blue Heaven - Vintage Platinum Natural Ceylon Sapphire & Diamond Ring. This exquisite ring is crafted from platinum, hallmarked 900 platinum. Featuring one natural oval cut faceted natural Ceylon sapphire, two natural round brilliant cut diamonds, vintage styling, and quality craftsmanship. The gallery on this ring showcases a beautiful dreamy sky blue Ceylon sapphire, which is enhanced by a sparkling diamond on each side of the precious gemstone. The gallery is solid, yet exhibits exquisite filigree detailing, whilst the shoulders are tapered and showcases a cathedral design. The shank is plain, polished, and smooth, which allows for a comfortable fit, and easy sizing. This beautiful and unique ring would make a wonderful addition to any fine jewelry collection.

History: According to historical accounts, Ceylon was already known for sapphires by the 2nd century A.D. and there was an active international trade in Ceylon gems by the 4th and 5th century. Its sapphires come in a wide variety of colours and is known for producing the largest stones in the world.

Sapphires from Sri Lanka are still fondly referred to as Ceylon Sapphires and are widely used in sapphire engagement rings and other fine jewellery for their alluring colours and durability. Luminosity, allure and radiance of natural Ceylon sapphires will continue to capture the hearts of many around the world.

In ancient Greece and Rome, kings and queens were convinced that blue sapphires protected their owners from envy and harm. ... During the Middle Ages, the clergy wore blue sapphires to symbolize Heaven, and ordinary folks thought the gem attracted heavenly blessings. 

The earliest diamonds were found in India in 4th century BC, although the youngest of these deposits were formed 900 million years ago. A majority of these early stones were transported along the network of trade routes that connected India and China, commonly known as the Silk Road.

Although the modern history of platinum only begins in the 18th century, platinum has been found in objects dating from 700 BC, in particular the famous Casket of Thebes (see image). ... The Spanish called this metal Platina, a diminutive of Plata, the Spanish word for silver.
