Georgian Circa 1820 Pinchbeck Amethyst Paste Bracelet.  This stunning Georgian era bracelet is made of pinchbeck, and Georgian Paste amethyst gemstones. This bracelet is well made with an adjustable clasp that allows the bracelet to fit firmly around your wrist with the design sitting upright on your wrist.  The front of the has a raised design with foiled back paste amethyst gemstone. The paste is faceted across the top and the faceting is still very crisp without chipping or surface wear. The bracelet has a very rich and bright patina that was made to simulate gold and there is very little discolouration or surface wear.  The combination of the rich gold pinchbeck and beautiful rich purple amethysts are stunning. The lovely ornate design adds to the bracelet, and offsets the beautiful purple pastes stones. The clasp is a hook style clasp and works securely.  This bracelet looks stunning when worn, and would make a perfect addition to any jewel collection.

Note: Note:  Pinchbeck is a form of brass, an alloy of copper and zinc, mixed in proportions so that it closely resembles gold in appearance. It was invented by Christopher Pinchbeck (1670-1732), a London clockmaker. Since gold was only sold in 18 carat (18k) quality at that time, the development of pinchbeck allowed ordinary people to buy gold"effect" jewellery. The inventor allegedly made pinchbeck jewellery clearly labelled as such. Pinchbeck jewellery was used in places like stagecoaches where there was no risk of theft. Later dishonest people people passed pinchbeck off as gold. The most beautiful pinchbeck are the earlier pieces. This bracelet is fine example of early pinchbeck.
