On This Day In 1886 - Victorian 18K Gold Sapphire & Diamond Ring. This exquisite ring is crafted from 18K gold, hallmarked 18 for 18K, a Chester assay, a date letter C for 1886, and a makers mark CR. Featuring one natural Old Mine Cut diamond, two natural antique cut sapphires, Victorian styling, full crisp hallmarks, and quality craftsmanship. This Victorian ring exhibits a beautiful rich buttery yellow gold colour. The gallery showcases an expertly claw-set pale canary yellow diamond, and violet blue sapphires. The diamond glows beautifully, and the sapphires change their blue colour in different light intensities. The shoulders have a lovely carved detail, which lead down to a polished and smooth band, which allows for a comfortable fit and easy sizing. This Victorian era ring would make the most beautiful wedding ring, or gift for that perfect someone.

Note: Exquisite ring, with original gemstones, and beautiful Ceylon blue sapphires.  Full crisp hallmarks are a real rarity, and getting more difficult to find.

Appraisal included with ring. Contemporary appraisals do not reflect the antique value of antique jewelry.

The earliest diamonds were found in India in 4th century BC, although the youngest of these deposits were formed 900 million years ago. A majority of these early stones were transported along the network of trade routes that connected India and China, commonly known as the Silk Road.

The celestial blue color of this gemstone symbolized heaven and attracted divine favor and wise judgment. Greeks wore sapphire for guidance when seeking answers from the oracle. Buddhists believed that it brought spiritual enlightenment, and Hindus used it during worship.

In the history of the United Kingdom and the British Empire, the Victorian era was the period of Queen Victoria's reign, from 20 June 1837 until her death on 22 January 1901.
