On This Day In 1911 - Edwardian 18K Gold Diamond & Ruby Ring.  This fantastic ring is crafted from 18K yellow gold , hallmarked 18 for 18K, Full Birmingham assay and dated 1911(letter assay).  Featuring 2 natural round cut rubies, 3 natural Old Mine cut diamonds, Edwardian styling and quality gold-work. The exquisite ring houses expertly claw-set interspaced vibrant red rubies and glowing diamonds.  The combination of the red rubies and diamond is so attractive and adds contrast to the ring.  The shoulders have delicate detailing, leading down to a smooth and polished band, which allows for a comfortable fit and easy sizing.  This post Edwardian era ring looks beautiful on the hand, a wonderful early ring in pristine condition.  So elegant and quite simply stunning!

Note: Value is based on rarity, condition, age, workmanship, and the beauty of the ring.  Contemporary appraisals do not reflect the antiquity value.

In 1953, GIA formally created its diamond grading system, known as the 4 C's. The 4 Cs of diamond quality are the universally recognized diamond grading system still to be used today.  1n 1955, GIA presented its first diamond grading reports, which became the hallmark of grading reports in the diamond industry. Before this time in antiquity clients did not care about diamond grading. It was based more so on the size of the diamonds ( according to budget) , style, and sentiment.

The earliest diamonds were found in India in 4th century BC, although the youngest of these deposits were formed 900 million years ago. A majority of these early stones were transported along the network of trade routes that connected India and China, commonly known as the Silk Road.

The history of rubies is a story rich in splendour and mystery. These precious gems have been mentioned in the Bible, worn by royalty throughout human history, and believed to protect ancient warriors in battle. They have been thought to act as a talisman for peace and a promise of wisdom and health for the holder. They are associated with love, passion, and power. But for all that, their very existence is still considered to be something of a geological miracle.

Edward VII was King of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland and Emperor of India ... The Edwardian era, which covered Edward's reign and was named after him, coincided with the start of a new century and heralded significant ...   George Frederick Ernest Albert : George V, in full George Frederick Ernest Albert, (born June 3, 1865, London, England—died January 20, 1936, Sandringham, Norfolk), king of the United Kingdom from 1910 to 1936, the second son of Prince Albert Edward, later King Edward VII.

Comments: This wonderful ring would have been manufactured during the reign of George V.   Antiques following Edwardians reign are sometimes still listed as being Edwardian.  This ring is a lovely example from the period.
