On This Day In 1923 - Art Deco Platinum Diamond Inscribed & Engraved Wedding Band Ring. This exquisite ring is crafted from platinum, tested, and confirmed with professional appraisal. Featuring nine single cut diamonds, exquisite detail, Art Deco era styling, and high quality craftsmanship. The galley on this ring is made up of delicate square settings, which are bead set with sparkling high quality diamonds. The back half of the ring is engraved with precious little forget me knot flowers ( a motif found in antique jewelry) which was often used for wedding rings. The ring also has a wonderful inscription inside the band, which reads Had to Dot 4-7-23, so this ring is over 100 years old. This Art Deco era ring is so special, truly a perfect wedding or anniversary band with history, or a wonderful piece to add to your antique jewelry collection.
Comments: Looks fabulous as a stacking ring too! Rare inscription, adds history to the ring.
Note: Appraisal included with the Ring. Contemporary appraisal do not reflect the antique value.
History: The earliest diamonds were found in India in 4th century BC, although the youngest of these deposits were formed 900 million years ago. A majority of these early stones were transported along the network of trade routes that connected India and China, commonly known as the Silk Road.
Although the modern history of platinum only begins in the 18th century, platinum has been found in objects dating from 700 BC, in particular the famous Casket of Thebes (see image). ... The Spanish called this metal Platina, a diminutive of Plata, the Spanish word for silver.
The Art Deco period started in 1920 and continued until 1935. It received its name from the International Exposition Of Modern Decorative And Industrial Arts, held in Paris in 1925. The Art Deco jewellery period is regarded as one of the most important in the history of jewellery design.
