From Times Past - Vintage 14K Gold Mechanical Cuckoo Clock Pendant & 14K GF Chain. This charming pendant is crafted on 14K yellow gold, hallmarked 585 (European hallmark for 14K gold). The chain is crafted from 14K gold fill, hallmarked 1/20 14K GF.  This lovely pendant is made in the form of a beautiful dimensional cuckoo clock. The charm showcases delicate detailing such as a face of a clock, two victorian figures of a man and a woman, a open window with a little bird, engravings to outline the wood, and the scalloped roof, and wonderful mechanical pine cone weights, which can be gently pulled down and adjusted. The back of the clock displays engravings on the gold to resemble wood. The chain is a vintage style belcher link, which looks wonderful with the vintage pendant. The chain features a spring ring clasp in perfect working order. This vintage pendant is a wonderful addition to any fine jewelry collection.  So whimsical and charming!

These amazing dimensional charms/pendants are such wonderful little treasures to be cherished, due to the craftsmanship, detail, and amount of gold that is used to make them.

History: Gold was generally used for a couple thousand years solely to create things such as jewelry and idols for worship. This was until around 1500 BC when the ancient empire of Egypt, which benefited greatly from its gold-bearing region, Nubia, made gold the first official medium of exchange for international trade.

The history of gold-filled jewellery traces back to early 19th century England, where this technique was patented to create semi-precious and better-quality custom jewellery during the Victorian Era.

As long as gold filled pieces are well cared for, they can last a lifetime. Gold plated pieces, on the other hand, can last up to a year if kept away from water, wear, and heat. It's also worth mentioning that gold filled pieces with lower karat weight (9-14k) may be more durable than pieces with greater gold content. Victorian gold filled jewelry can last for centuries.
