Petit Point - Victorian 9K Rose Gold Natural Garnet Cabochon Gypsy Ring. This antique ring is crafted from 9K rose gold, tested. The ring features 6 natural garnet cabochon gemstones, Victorian styling, and quality craftsmanship. The gallery on this ring is expertly claw-set with glowing red wine garnets. The gems are set into the band, which is known as a gypsy ring. There are traces of delicate engraving on the band, which are still visible. The band is tapered, smooth, and polished, which allows for a comfortable fit and easy sizing. History: The history of garnet dates back to the Bronze Age, more than 5000 years ago. Its name, which has been used since these ancient times, was derived from the Latin word granatium, which means pomegranate (because the small, red crystals were thought to resemble pomegranate seeds).
Gold was generally used for a couple thousand years solely to create things such as jewelry and idols for worship. This was until around 1500 BC when the ancient empire of Egypt, which benefited greatly from its gold-bearing region, Nubia, made gold the first official medium of exchange for international trade.
Rose gold was first used in early 19th century Russia by the famed jeweler Carl Faberge in his famous Faberge Eggs, as was known as Russian Gold. Rose gold later gained popularity in the United States during the lavish and feminine 1920's, and was worn in engagement rings and fine jewelry.
