Purple Coronets - Victorian English 12K Gold Filled Natural Amethyst & Paste Dangly Earrings.  These antique earrings are crafted from 12K Gold fill, hallmarked. They feature two natural round cut faceted amethysts, two round cut paste gemstones, Victorian era styling, and quality craftsmanship. The surmount on these earrings are set with clear paste gems, which is connected to a chain and dangling coronet claw-set beautiful purple amethysts, displaying purplish/violet hues. The earrings are for pierced ears, and feature posts and secure friction butterfly backs. These Victorian era earrings would make a wonderful addition to any jewelry collection.

History: Ancient Greeks and Romans believed this gemstone could ward off the intoxicating powers of Bacchus and keep the wearer clear-headed and quick-witted. English regalia were decorated with amethysts during the Middle Ages to symbolize royalty. Amethyst jewelry has been found and dated as early as 2000 BC.

Paste jewellery is a special type of flint glass that emulates a number of gemstones. The origins of Paste jewellery date back to the mid-18th century, to a jeweller named Georges Frederic Stras, who worked as a jeweller to the king when he moved from Strasbourg to Paris in 1724.

The history of gold-filled jewellery traces back to early 19th century England, where this technique was patented to create semi-precious and better-quality custom jewellery during the Victorian Era.

In the history of the United Kingdom and the British Empire, the Victorian era was the reign of Queen Victoria, from 20 June 1837 until her death on 22 January 1901.
