Roses Are Red Sapphires Are Blue - Vintage Retro 14K Gold Natural Sapphire & Ruby Ring. This gorgeous ring is crafted from 14K yellow and white gold (The claws are crafted from white gold), hallmarked 14K, and a makers mark CALCENTINE. This ring features one natural oval cut faceted sapphire, 2 natural oval cut rubies, classic vintage styling, and quality craftsmanship. This ring is unique and dimensional, showcasing a ribbon of gold expertly claw-set with a beautiful indigo blue sapphire. The precious sapphire is adorned by deep red vibrant rubies, which add contrast and color to the piece. The ribbon portion has a brushed finish, whilst the rest of the ring features a high polish. The shank is smooth and polished, which allows for a comfortable fit and easy sizing. This wonderful ring would make a wonderful addition to any fine jewelry collection.

History: The celestial blue color of this gemstone symbolized heaven and attracted divine favor and wise judgment. Greeks wore sapphire for guidance when seeking answers from the oracle. Buddhists believed that it brought spiritual enlightenment, and Hindus used it during worship.

Records suggest that rubies were traded along China's North Silk Road as early as 200 BC. Chinese noblemen adorned their armor with rubies because they believed the gem would grant protection. Burma has been a significant ruby source since at least 600 AD.

Gold was generally used for a couple thousand years solely to create things such as jewelry and idols for worship. This was until around 1500 BC when the ancient empire of Egypt, which benefited greatly from its gold-bearing region, Nubia, made gold the first official medium of exchange for international trade.
