Secret Of Camelot - Vintage 9K Gold Garnet & Seed Pearl Poison Locket Ring.  Vintage 9K Gold Emerald  & Seed Pearl Poison Locket Ring.  This exquisite ring is crafted from 9K yellow gold, hallmarked 375 for 9K.   Featuring one natural garnet cabochon gemstone, 14 genuine seed pearls, exquisite detail,  quality gold-work and Victorian styling.  This amazing ring boasts an expertly bezel set red wine garnet, with a seed pearl surround.  The pearls are white with a silvery overtone. The decorative lid in the form of a jewelled cluster opens and closes perfectly. The gallery and the shoulders are masterfully engraved, adding interest and beauty to the piece.  The shank is smooth and polished, which allows for a comfortable fit.  This Vintage Victorian Revival era piece is a piece of wearable art, so special and beautiful!

The history of garnet dates back to the Bronze Age, more than 5000 years ago. ... Its name, which has been used since these ancient times, was derived from the Latin word granatium, which means pomegranate (because the small, red crystals were thought to resemble pomegranate seeds).

Gold was generally used for a couple thousand years solely to create things such as jewelry and idols for worship. This was until around 1500 BC when the ancient empire of Egypt, which benefited greatly from its gold-bearing region, Nubia, made gold the first official medium of exchange for international trade.

Originating in ancient India and the Far East, the poison ring eventually made its way to Europe. The traditional poison ring had a very small container hidden under a hinged cover. Ancient Romans sometimes used poison rings to commit suicide when a painful death was unavoidable.
