Shades Of Love - Vintage 14K Tri - Gold Puffed Reversible Heart Pendant & Chain.  This pretty pendant is crafted from 14K gold, hallmarked. Whilst the chain is crafted from 14K rose gold fill. The lovely pendant has a satiny brushed finish, and displays a colour combination of yellow, rose, and white gold. Therefore, it can be worn with a chain of any of these colours of gold. The back of the pendant has a shiny yellow gold finish, which can also be worn with this side facing out.  The chain is dainty yet sturdy enough for the pendant, and features a spring ring in perfect working order.  The Vintage pendant looks beautiful when worn, truly a special gift for that special someone.

Gold was generally used for a couple thousand years solely to create things such as jewelry and idols for worship. This was until around 1500 BC when the ancient empire of Egypt, which benefited greatly from its gold-bearing region, Nubia, made gold the first official medium of exchange for international trade.

Rose gold was first used in early 19th century Russia by the famed jeweler Carl Faberge in his infamous Faberge Eggs, as was known as Russian Gold. Rose gold later gained popularity in the United Stated during the lavish and feminine 1920's, and was worn in engagement rings and fine jewelry.

Although the origin of white color gold dates back to 1710, where it was discovered by two alchemists in Germany, it wasn't used widely until much later. White gold as we know it today was really popularised in the 1920s. Although it might seem strange, this luxury material came to popularity in wartime.

In ancient times, gold wire was literally created by rolling: in Ancient Egypt, gold was hammered in to thin, thin sheets, then rolled into a tight or hollow tube, then shaped to create wire jewelry. Over time, however, this rolled gold became “filled” with a base metal, such as brass, thus gold filled with brass.

It actually starts as a base metal and then through a process involving high heat, the solid gold is bonded to the metal in several layers. The gold added must make up at least 5% of the weight to be called gold filled. This process is much better than gold plate.
